Top 10 Tuesdays

Top 10 Books I am reading!

OK, you already know that I am taking part in a reading challenge this year and you also know that my target is 25 books from 25 different categories. I figured that’s the best I can do given my crazy work schedule. 25 books for a year means about 2 books a month and that means a minimum of 6 books for this quarter.

I like doing everything in an organized manner, so from the day I decided to do the challenge, I have been itching to figure out which book I would read for eachΒ category so that I can have them waiting on my kindle! The last 3 days I have been researching, asking for suggestions and taking recommendations from seasoned readers for names of books.

Finally, I organized all 25 books for each category into my kindleΒ and now I am ready to share the names of the Top 10 books I am reading this quarter. When I say Top 10, I only mean the first 10 that I will be reading and it is in random order.

  1. Mystery/Thriller

Mystery/thrillers are one of my favorite genre of books. So, it is only fair that I start with this category for my reading challenge. The book I have chosen for this category is The Lake House by Kate Morton. The reviews for this book have been really good with most giving it up to 4.5 out of 5 stars.

  1. A Book Set in the Future

I am not a huge fan of futuristic stories unless it is extremely good. But a good friend who is also a published author highly recommended this to me after she read it. When I read other reviews and the synopsis of the book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. So for this category, my choice is Red Mars by Kim Stanley RobinsonΒ which is the first of a trilogy.

  1. Book with Number on the Title

After scouring book review sites, I came across The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, which immediately caught my attention. When I read the synopsis of the book, I knew this was the book I wanted for the category – book with number on the title. This is the first book of a trilogy.

  1. Book Published this Year

run for it

My good friend and author Dr.Β  Meg Sorick is publishing her 3rd book from The Bucks County Series. This book called Run For It has been on my reading list ever since she told me that she had started writing it. The book will be published this week and I sure will be one of the first buyers. It obviously fits into my category for a book published this year.

  1. Book with Female Heroine

People have either loved this book or hated it.Β  That’s what I figured from the reviews. But when I read the synopsis I had a strong feeling that I am going to be one of those who love it. And that is exactly why The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins is my choice for book with female heroine category.

  1. Book with Magic

I have never read books with magic as their theme. Thus I was totally lost as to which book I should pick for this category. However, my good friend Ishita shared her reviewΒ of the Black Five by J. Lynn Bailey,Β which had me intrigued about the book. And I added it to my reading list under the book with magic category.

  1. Book that Won the Pulitzer Prize

I have always wanted to read Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird for the longest time, but never got around to reading it. This year I have set my mind on accomplishing that interest. To Kill A Mockingbird fits perfectly well into the Pulitzer Prize winning book category.

  1. Book with Antonyms in the Title

Books with antonym titles? So many out there, it becomes a task to pick the right one. After reading through countless synopsis and reviews, I settled on Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

  1. Book that became a Movie

I was spoilt for choice on this one. I didn’t know which one to pick because there were a gazillion books that were made into movies. I wanted to pick a book that I have not read and the movie I hadn’t watched. So I turned to my blogging buddies in the Blogger’s World Forum. They gave me so many suggestions that I think I am sorted for a long time for this category. I finally ended up choosing The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky.

  1. A Book by Author with my Initials

can love happen twice

I realized very painfully that there are not many authors with my initials (RM), so I decided to stick with just the first name basis (R). I also wanted to read something written by an Indian author. So for this category I chose the book Can Love Happen Twice by Ravinder Singh.

That’s my Top 10 for now. I have started with The Lake House and will be reading them all in random order. I may share a book review if I like any of them enough to drive me to my laptop as soon as I put the book down. If not, I may just let the pro’s do their job! πŸ˜€

In a few weeks I will share the books I have chosen for the remaining categories too! What about you? Do you have your reading list ready? Or, are you an impromptu reader?
