Limerick Poetry Challenge

Limerick Challenge Week 3: Magic

This week we had the highest number of participants/entries for the Limerick Poetry Challenge! It was so much fun to read them all! Some are humorous, some serious, some dark, some inspiring and some simply beautiful and heartwarming limericks!Β I can’t express my gratitude enough to all you lovely people for coming up with amazing limericks. So, thank you! πŸ™‚

A couple of weeks ago I announced that I wanted to change the β€˜Prize’ or β€˜Gift’ for the winners to do something that is more meaningful than materialistic. I kept thinking what it was that I could do but never came up with anything worthwhile until Peter of Meritings suggested donating his winning to a local charity and Nicola of Sometimes Stellar StorytellerΒ followed suit. Then the light bulb in my head struck and I finally came up with a plan!

Here’s the plan: every week, I will make a donation to the local Food Pantry in my community that helps the homeless. The donation will be made in the name of the winner and the winner will receive a β€˜Thank you’ badge they can proudly display on their blog. I figured that this way we get to have fun being part of the challenge and at the same time contribute in our own way to the local charity!

I think it a wonderful idea, what do you think? While you ponder over the idea, don’t forget to check out theΒ winners for the 2016 Week 2 Challenge!

And the winner is……..Β  Oneta Hayes of Sweet Aroma with a soulful limerick. Check out her full post here!

The immortal soul is eternal,

With spirit form that’s supernal.

Some deny its reality,

Believing all is mortality.

The fleshly home is the soul’s external.

The second place is shared by NJ of Ametalk for her wonderful limerick about Lord Shiva and Shilpa Niraj for her limerick dedication to her Dad!

The third place is shared by Sandra of WhatSandraThinks for a heartwarming limerick about immortal love and Calisthenics for yet another heartwarming limerick.

Now that the Top 5 have been announced, it is time for the Week 3 Challenge.

The prompt word for this week’s challenge is β€˜Magic’. You can opt to use the word β€˜Magic’ or some of its closer synonyms like sorcery, wizardry, illusion, etc. in your limerick…you get the idea!

For those who are new to the challenge, here are the rules:

  1. Each week, a prompt (A Word) will be provided and participants are to use this prompt as a base for their limericks.
  2. Participants can opt to either use the word (prompt) itself or a synonym of the word to use in their Limerick. This is aΒ MUST. Either the word or a synonym of the word must be a part of your Limerick!
  3. This challenge will run fromΒ Friday to Thursday, and you may add your Limerick anytime during these specific days.
  4. Please tag your Limerick with:Β Limerick Poetry Challengeso that others interested can check out your LimerickΒ (This step is important).
  5. Add your story’s URL to this website’s comments. (This step is also important so I will know who has participated).
  6. If you are interested in participating in this challenge, please follow this blog site to receive instant email notifications of the post with the Word prompts for each week.
  7. The main purpose of this challenge is to have fun and learn. Those who are able to mentor and help others grow in their writing; you are encouraged to do so. All constructive feedback should be communicated in a kind and helpful manner AND received in a welcoming manner.
  8. All Limericks for Week 3 Challenge are due in by Friday, January 22, 2015.
  9. Donation to local charity is made in the name of the Winners who will receive a β€˜Thank You’ badge from the charity. They can choose to display the badge on their blogs!
  10. WELCOME TO MIND AND LIFE MATTERS LIMERICK POETRY CHALLENGE!

Finally, here is my take on the prompt:

Once a boy named Henry

Conjured the art of sorcery

He took it to heart

To learn the best part

Of all that is there to Wizardry!
